Those of you who were there will remember this as the wettest walk we've ever done.

It rained a bit on Friday, but we had a good walk along the Catbells ridge with the weather clearing all the time. Dinner in the Salutation, which is very good these days.

On Saturday we climbed Blencathra by Sharp Edge, and when we got to the top things were still looking good. Collin had the sense to go back down to the campsite (via The Salutation) from the top of Blencathra. The rest of us thought it would be a good idea to walk across to Skiddaw House and down the mine track to Threlkeld.

How wrong can you be? It started to hail as we left the top of Blencathra, but we thought nothing of it. It turned to rain, and then heavy rain. Skiddaw House never seemed to get closer. We were tramping across knee-high pathless heather and grass. I was tipping pints of water out of my boots whenever we stopped, my well-known sense of humour nearly deserted me!

We got back to the tents after a 13 mile walk, then of course the rain stopped. These events are character forming.

Length of walk 21 km (13 miles) - Ascent 1000 metres (3300 feet).

Curry in Keswick in the evening.
